When I received a call from Yean for a climb on Brisbane's Story Bridge, I was excited and out-of-words. What more, to have a climb which would normally cost AUD$70 (I think) completely paid for, was just superb, wouldn't you agree??
So, on the night before the day of the climb, Aunty Leslie (Yean's mum) picked me up from college and I subsequently bunked in Yean's place for a night...
At approximately 4.30am next morning, we woke up and headed to the Story Bridge Climb office. As usual, they checked us in and gave us a debrief about the safety precautions and dangers of the expected climb. I could still remember how cheerful the facilitators were. Aunty Leslie was quite fearful before the climb, I can recall, but after much short rehearsals and practices on a miniature bridge, she calmed down a bit.
Well, there we went, up the bridge on a bright sunny morning. The scenery and the display of the city from up there was just amazing. And every time a heavy truck passed on the bridge, you could actually feel the bridge shake a little.
The Story Bridge is one of the few bridges in Brisbane completely made of steel (You can compare this to the Sydney Harbour Bridge).
Well then, after about 1.5-2 hrs on the top of the world (on top of the bridge actually), we completed the walk safely [I bet Aunty Leslie was relieved]. We received a certificate (woohoo!!) and I could be exempted of any future climbs if I bring another 2 new individuals with me. Isn't that cool???
Lastly, I missed 2 hrs of lectures because of this trip (PHYS1171 & BIOL1012). Well, who cares, anyway?
