Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup. Those are the three popular Powerpuff girls seen in cartoons trying to save the world from evil monsters like Mojojojo and the like. Don't worry. This post is nothing related to cartoons and animated characters. It's specifically about Bubbles!
I'm sure everyone knows about bubbles. They are the mesmerising spherical creatures which has a thin film outer covering and float freely in the air. Nowadays, the word 'bubbles' have been made into an adjective, 'bubbly', to describe a person's happy-go-lucky, cheerful, carefree personality. I guess the reason the adjective fits the description of bubbles is because of the sudden feeling of glee and excitement when you see streams of bubbles floating everywhere when you blow it out of the hoop.
Here I present you an alternative, but equally accurate, interpretation of 'bubbly'. A bubble is a pretty little thing. When it's put under the light, the thin film around it glows with a somewhat magical rainbow aurora. However, if you try to touch it, POP! it goes and everything that was pretty disappears in a split second.
There it is, 'bubbly' represents a person with an 'untouchable' character. He/she 'pops' at the slightest 'touch' and everything that was so admirable about the person disappears into thin air. Having a 'bubbly' friend is therefore a tough feat. At one hand, you'd like to enjoy the company of your 'bubbly' friend. Just like blowing bubbles in mid-air and finding joy in that, you'd like to be happy being around with your 'bubbly' friend. But, wait! If you venture too close and touch the bubbles, your 'bubbly' friend will 'pop' in a matter of microseconds.
So, you see, there's no spontaneity left in a 'bubbly' friendship. Everything that is done must be mechanical, robotic and somewhat involuntary. One has to tread cautiously in that friendship or else risk the collapse of the whole friendship at the most insignificant of a 'touch'. At one point, one would decide that it's too tiring to survive in a laborious mechanistic friendship and decides to cut that line forever. However still, there lingers still the feeling of a searing loss of a beautiful 'bubbly' bubble of a friend.
So, if someone says, you're bubbly, think twice!
